As a higher education leader, you must understand accrediting bodies, professional and occupational associations, and standards, as well as the impact they have on curriculum. Before responding to this Discussion question, please read this document and then conduct research on accreditation and accrediting bodies.

Professional schools within a college or university have their own set of standards and competencies mandated by the profession. The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. (NLNAC): http://www.nlnac.org/home.htm has, for example, established clear standards for nursing curriculum at all levels, from practical, diploma, and baccalaureate to graduate nursing degrees.

Does the accreditation association have specific guidelines or requirements for online programs if you are developing an online or hybrid program? What effect will this have on your plans?
What exactly does “teaching to standards” imply? Do standards have to be taught in all disciplines? What professional organizations will have an impact on your curriculum as you plan your course of study?
What will you do, as department chair, to ensure that your faculty is teaching in accordance with the program’s and accrediting bodies’ standards?
