In this Assignment, you will create your own strategic career plan for beginning your new career as a nurse practitioner. There are numerous steps that must be taken. To create your career plan, follow the guidelines below. There is no need to include references. This is a plan that you can lay out however you see fit. Think creatively about what you want to do as a nurse practitioner. There are no right or wrong answers in this plan because everyone will have different goals.

It’s time to take stock and ask yourself some probing questions. What is your long-term career goal? Be specific and truthful. Where would you like to work? What are your short and long-term objectives? (give timeline). What are the most important characteristics you seek? Discuss your salary, vacation, sick leave, CME allowance, medical benefits, retirement, and so on. Perhaps you have a specialty, such as managing chronic diseases in patients over the age of 65.

Next, describe your ideal work environment. Is it a small-town clinic or a major trauma center? Who is your intended patient demographic? Do you have a soft spot for a specific population or specialty? What kind of schedule do you want? What are your current career priorities? What do you hope to achieve in your career in the next five years?

How do you intend to conduct your research (whether for employment or an independent practice site)? Include methods such as job fairs, the Internet, and medical employment agencies.

Today’s healthcare provider must be able to network. Talk about your networking ideas. What Internet resources could you use to network with other healthcare providers?

How are you going to prepare for the interview? What specific steps are you planning to take?

Assume you are launching your own practice. What demographics will it serve? How will you publicize your practice? What kind of people will you need to hire? How will you raise funds? Will you be open late to accommodate the needs of working patients? Will you be the sole provider, or will you enlist the help of others?
