This week, you’ll learn how to be a patient advocate for all people, especially those from different cultures than your own.

Consider an ethical quandary that you have encountered in your own nursing practice—pick one that was caused by a miscommunication between people from different cultures. Clearly describe the situation.
How did each group or individual interpret the quandary? (Explain both sides objectively.)
Determine each group’s conflicting values and belief systems.
What information was missing—what information did the health care providers lack about the patient’s culture?
Following that, define culturally congruent care.
