Reflecting On Nursing Development

Reflecting On Nursing Development
Nurse burnout has been established as one of the leading professional nursing concerns today’s nurses encounter. Nurses frequently work for extended periods performing duties that may drain them physically, mentally, and emotionally resulting in workplace distress. It is mainly caused by poorly managed, persistent workplace stress. Other burnout causes entail changing shift schedules, systematic problems within the healthcare system, and nurse understaffing in most facilities. According to Shah et al., (2020), indicators of nurse burnout are mental and physical fatigue, reduced workplace performance, and skepticism about work.
Nurse burnouts adversely impact the quality of care following the high rate of clinical errors since exhausted nurses are mostly unable to make proper clinical decisions. Burnouts also expose nurses to safety concerns since they risk their mental health (Shah et al.,2020).Burnouts are further linked to hefty finances due to the high nurse turnover incidences, which forces organizations to allocate more finances to replace nurses who quit or spend highly in an attempt to retain nurses threatening to quit. Nurse burnout is a critical work-related challenge that can result in severe consequences for patients and nurses. Therefore, it needs a comprehensive understanding of how to manage and prevent it.
The collected research on professional nursing issues has significantly influenced my nursing practice. Generally, nursing research is considered a crucial component of the profession because it significantly impacts present and future nursing practices. The collected research has given me a comprehensive understanding of nurses’ challenges in their line of duty, the contributory factors, and how to manage and prevent similar concerns effectively. Using knowledge from the research, I am now in a better position to respond effectively to such challenges in my quest to becoming a competent nurse. The research information will be helpful in establishing the most effective practices that will enhance the delivery of patient care.
The two key topics from this course that have impacted my development toward becoming a bachelor’s educated nurse are nursing education pathways and global and domestic nursing issues. Nursing education pathways have taught me the significance of advanced nursing education for my career. Chinn et al., (2021) established that higher nursing education would expose nurses to more employment opportunities. Enhanced nursing knowledge is associated with better patient results, reduced mortalities, shorter patient hospitalizations, and lower readmissions. This topic has made me more enthusiastic about continuing my professional development through medication. Developing myself into a bachelor’s educated nurse will place me in a better position in the job market, which highly demands qualified and competent nurses. I have also learned that I must continue to attain my bachelor’s but become a lifelong learner since the nursing industry is ever-evolving and needs to be updated with the latest practices.
The topic touching on global and domestic nursing issues has imparted me with crucial knowledge which will contribute to my development as a nurse. I am now familiar with the severe professional issues nurses encounter, causes of these challenges, and proper measures to address them. These concerns include nurse burnout, understaffing, and occupationally acquired infections, which can significantly impede nurses in serving their patients (Catton, 2020). This topic has taught me the crucial strategies to prevent such issues or manage them effectively if they occur. This is a significant contribution to ones development as a nurse.
I find this topic relevant for the development of all nursing students, including me, who are aspiring to become competent nurses in the future. It enhances the professional development and practice as well as role proficiencies of nurses by supporting ongoing education, competencies, changes, and developments to improve the public’s health status through competent healthcare (Chinn et al., 2021).
