Portfolio of Engaged Learning Projects Please include the following documents in the following order in your portfolio:

1. Cover Page—Your Name and the Name of Your Organization

2. Contents Table

3. List of 5 types of health organizations (ranked by preference) and the names of all organizations you contacted about shadowing.

4. Report on Shadow Experience

a. Organization name and brief description (e.g., what does the organization do?) How do they relate to “health”? Who are their target audiences/groups? What is their goal? Objectives? etc.)

b. Shadow Observation Description. What did you do during your shadowing experience? What tasks have you observed/completed? What did you discover about the organization and the position as a result of your observations? Give examples of tasks/duties you completed (or observed) so that readers can get a sense of your experience and the position you shadowed. Make it clear how the position is related to “health.”

c. Interview Questionnaire and written summary of responses Include a list of interview questions that you prepared ahead of time for your shadowing experience. Then, summarize the employee’s responses to your questions, incorporating at least four course concepts as they apply to the employee’s responses. The summary must be written in the form of an essay (minus an introduction and conclusion). Before explaining how they reflect the interviewee’s responses, all concepts must be highlighted and defined.

d. Personal Reflection Essay: Submit a written reflection of your shadowing experience, including course concept application (you must apply at least four course concepts in your reflection essay as they relate to your experience—these concepts must be different from those discussed in your interview summary).

Explain in your reflection what you learned about health communication and working in the health field from this learning experience. Discuss both the challenging and rewarding experiences you believe you would have if you worked in this type of position/organization. What did you learn during your brief shadowing experience that will better prepare you for a career outside of the university? (regardless if you choose a health related field). What transferable communication skills did you notice during this experience that you believe will be useful in the future? 5. Thank You Note: Send a thank you note to the employee you shadowed, and include a copy in your portfolio.
