Working as a health care provider at any level puts you in contact with people of various faiths. This necessitates understanding and acceptance of a wide range of faith expressions.
The goal of this paper is to complete a comparative ethical analysis of George’s situation and decision from the standpoints of two worldviews or religions: Christianity and a second religion of your choice. Choose a faith that is new to you for the second faith. Faiths to consider include Sikh, Baha’i, Buddhism, Shintoism, and others.
Address all of the worldview questions for Christianity and your chosen faith in detail in your comparative analysis. The list of questions can be found in Chapter 2 of Called to Care. After outlining each religion’s worldview, begin your ethical analysis from each perspective.
Provide an ethical analysis based on the different belief systems in a minimum of 1,500-2,000 words, reinforcing major themes with insights gained from your research, and answering the following research-based questions:
How would each religion interpret George’s illness and suffering? Is there a “why” to his illness and suffering? (That is, is there a reason for George’s illness other than physical malady?)
In Georgeâ€TMs analysis of his own life, how would each religion value his life as a person and his life with ALS?
What values and considerations would each religion consider when deciding whether or not George should be euthanized?
Given the foregoing, which of the following options would be morally justifiable for George under each religion, and why?
Finally, you must present and defend your own point of view.
In addition to the course readings, lectures, the Bible, and textbooks for each religion, support your position by citing at least three academic resources (preferably from the GCU Library). A primary source must be included for each religion. According to the specifications listed above, a total of six references are required. Incorporate the research into your writing in a scholarly, appropriate manner.
