In this course, you will participate in a variety of activities before writing an assignment to connect theory to practice in each module. All activities must be carried out with your professor in a pre-determined census tract.

Census tracts are statistical subdivisions of a county that are small and relatively permanent. Census tracts typically have between 1,200 and 8,000 people and are initially delineated to be homogeneous in terms of population characteristics, economic status, and living conditions (United States Census Bureau, 2010).

For this assignment, you will log 3 hours of clinical experience. Activities throughout the term will count toward the course’s 15 hours of clinical experience. In your clinical log, which can be found in the syllabus, you must accurately record your hours and activity.

You must write at least three pages in APA format for each activity, including a title and reference page (not part of the three pages) and citing at least one research-based nursing journal related to the topic.

Tasks:

Visit a restaurant and a grocery store in the census tract assigned to you. Bring a copy of this assignment, a notebook, and a pen to record your findings. It is critical that you be specific in your observations. Then, go to the library and look for scholarly articles that support your findings.

Respond to the following in a 3–4 page essay:

Describe the people in these establishments, the nature of the products sold, the cultural flavor themes you notice, and three differences from the surrounding community.
Discuss the implications of your findings for people’s health.
How does going to a restaurant/grocery store help you understand this community better?
Provide examples and scholarly references to back up your findings.
Cite sources in accordance with APA guidelines.
