Assessing a Client’s Culture: Talk about how you’d examine a client’s culture. Are there any dietary restrictions, for example? Is it necessary to alter the schedule to prevent conflicts with religious practices? Who represents the family as a spokesperson? What would you say about it?
List any mental health nursing diagnoses that this person has or may have in the future. At least one cultural diagnostic should be included.
Planning: What preparations must be made to ensure the client’s cultural and emotional safety?
Implementation: What interventions may you use to protect your client’s cultural safety? At least two interventions should be included. What interventions would you make to protect your client’s safety if they have religious views that prevent them from taking drugs, for example? What can you do to ensure that the cultural needs of the client are met?
How will you determine whether your implementation was successful? Make sure the parameters are measurable and objective.
Discuss whether any completed interventions were successful in your summary. Is there anything that could be done differently in the future? If the interventions have yet to be implemented, you might want to talk about some institutional adjustments that could be made to ensure cultural safety for all clients in that context.
