Critical thinking is the process of solving patient problems and making decisions in order to improve the outcome. It’s a critical step toward ensuring a safe, effective, and skilled nursing intervention. Critical thinking in nursing is a deliberate, logical process that results in positive patient outcomes. An open-minded nurse can benefit from others’ critical thinking abilities and apply what they’ve learned to the benefit of their patients. Critical thinking that is self-disciplined and self-guided. Improving clinical practice, providing cost-effective nursing care, and maintaining accountability and transparency in decision-making all necessitate evidence-based decision-making. Several resources are available to primary care registered nurses and nurse practitioners to assist them in using evidence and integrating it with their own values, client preferences, theories, clinical judgment ethics, regulations, and practice environment (CNA, 2002). Evidence-based practice is a critical tool for providing high-quality care in a variety of nursing specializations. Nurses can use evidence-based practice to make data-driven decisions based on clinical expertise and current research.
In nursing, critical thinking is using knowledge and experience to recognize patient problems and directing clinical judgments by choosing among alternatives, analyzing evidence, relying on intuition, and recognizing patterns. Questioning, data gathering, analysis, synthesis, interpretation, inference, inductive and deductive reasoning, intuition, application, creativity, and verification are all part of the process. A critical thinking nurse employs key cognitive thinking abilities and evidence based justification to carry out activities that result in better patient outcomes (Carson Newman, 2018). Nurses use critical thinking in the process of solving patient problems and making decisions, along with creativity, to improve the outcome. It’s an important step in ensuring a safe, effective, and skilled nursing intervention.
All nurses need to be able to think critically. They are required for providing safe and high quality clinical care. Today’s nurses are caring for patients with complicated, culturally varied health care requirements, emphasizing the significance of critical thinking in nursing.
Nurses who are skilled at critical thinking have the following characteristics: motivation, perseverance, fairness, innovation, creativity, flexibility, intuition, and deliberate and meticulous thought (Carson Newman, 2018).
Evidence-based practice supports nursing care and can improve patient outcomes in a range of situations and places evidence-based practice relevance to nursing, and the skills required to support it should be mandatory components of baccalaureate education. They should be presented early in students’ development as independent, self-directed learners and professional nurses. Critical thinking is critical among the knowledge, skills, and processes required to enable evidence-based practice. Critical thinking can provide nurses with the required skills and qualities needed to support evidence-based practice.

Critical Thinking is the ability to use the nursing process to gather facts in a creative way to resolve a problem. Evidence Based Practice is the combination of clinical knowledge, and most up to date research for the best patient outcomes. It entails analysis, inquisitiveness, confidence, experience, clinical judgment, and clinical reasoning (AACN, 2008). This is significant on the grounds that it expands the point of view and it adds to the advancement of a basic scholar. The nurse’s ability is enhanced to put into practice, and this relates to the best patient outcomes. The nurse will give care based on the best up to date research meeting the needs of the patient (Dean, 2018). To be a decent and good nurse, a nurse needs to have the decisive reasoning abilities that is expected to really focus on patient care. Nurses need to be able to prioritize and make the important decisions that will one day save a life. Nursing requires every minute of everyday care and for nurses to be able to think critically, they need to be able to interpret data and make decisions rightfully to save patient’s lives. EBP gives nurses the equipment necessary to make improvements in healthcare for proper patient outcomes. Nurses that have what it takes to fundamentally think can utilize EBP to normalize care, decline clinical blunders and carry a positive change to their patients.
