What if they say the right things, but their actions contradict them? Is that person still regarded as a capable leader?
â€Actions speak louder than words,†as the saying goes. You may or may not have heard of this phrase, but it is an intriguing one to consider as a future public health leader. It is almost mandatory for leaders to have excellent communication skills in order to clearly articulate thoughts and information. Consider a public health leader who persuaded a group of people to change their behavior in order to improve their overall health. If the public health leader communicated effectively, the group of people might consider this change, establishing this leader as an authority on the subject and a social change leader. But what if this eloquent speaker behaved in a way that contradicted everything he or she said? Would everyone in the group have the same opinion? Consider a leader who oversees public health programs, initiatives, and people in a similar situation. What if they say the right things, but their actions contradict them? Is that person still regarded as a capable leader?
You will continue your understanding and analysis of leadership perspectives this week with a behavioral perspective. You analyze the strengths and limitations of this leadership perspective within public health leadership in your review of it.
