As discussed in Unit 5, networking is used to fill approximately 85 percent of jobs. There are numerous ways to organize your network. One method is to use a network mind map. The mind map shown here is a simple one that starts with six (6) current contacts. To broaden your network, think of two (2) additional contacts you could make through each of the first six. Complete the Network Mind Map (on the following page) by filling in the blanks with names of contacts or organizations that you can use to build your network. Your completed mind map will contain 18 potential contacts that you could use to find and obtain a job.

After you’ve finished the mind map, reflect on your experience by answering the following questions:

How many of the original six (6) contacts were relatives? Enter text here by clicking here.
How many of them were friends? Enter text here by clicking here.
How many of them were business associates? Enter text here by clicking here.
Which types of original contacts, if any, would be most helpful in finding job opportunities (and why)? Enter text here by clicking here.
How difficult was it for you to broaden your network by adding two (2) secondary contacts to each of the original six (6) contacts? Enter text here by clicking here.
